Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Testing for Adults
Understanding the Busy Mind
ADHD is complex and presents differently in every individual, it is not just hyperactivity. For adults, it often manifests as overwhelming mental fatigue, chronic procrastination, or feeling constantly disorganized despite your best efforts.A comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation goes beyond a simple checklist. Dr. Kroes looks at the big picture, assessing executive functioning, working memory, attention span, and emotional regulation.
Maybe you've spent years wondering why tasks that seem easy for everyone else take so much effort. You might start projects with energy and struggle to finish them, lose track of time, miss deadlines, or feel like you're always behind despite working hard. You may have been called lazy, scattered, or "not living up to your potential" so often that you've started to believe it.
For many adults, those struggles are not a character flaw. They are a sign of ADHD that was never recognized.
At Mindful Psychology & Wellness, I provide comprehensive psychological evaluations for adults in Southlake, Texas who suspect they may have ADHD, whether they're newly curious or have wondered for decades. My goal is to give you an accurate, well-supported answer and a practical plan for what comes next.
Why ADHD is often missed in adults
ADHD is frequently overlooked, especially in adults who were bright, well-behaved, or good at compensating when they were young. Many adults reach their diagnosis only after:
- A child is diagnosed and the parent recognizes themselves in the description
- College, graduate school, or a demanding job outgrows the strategies that used to wor
- Burnout, anxiety, or depression treatment hasn't fully helped
- Life transitions such as parenthood, a new role, or less external structure expose long-standing difficulties
Women and people with primarily inattentive ADHD are especially likely to be missed, because their symptoms are often internal rather than outwardly disruptive.
Why a comprehensive evaluation matters
ADHD cannot be diagnosed from an online quiz or a ten-minute conversation. Anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep problems, autism, learning differences, thyroid and other medical issues, and substance use can all look like ADHD, and they often occur alongside it.
A careful evaluation sorts out what's driving your symptoms so that treatment is aimed at the right target. I am able to assess and diagnose several psychological conditions, including anxiety, depression, learning disorders, OCD, bipolar disorder, and autism, so you get the full picture rather than a partial one.
